Print Multiple Small Image Tiles on One A4 Page

An A4 printer sheet can hold several smaller pieces of one image. Choose A6 for four larger pieces, A8 for sixteen pieces, or A10 for a detailed grid of sixty-four pieces.

These examples each use one A4 artwork sheet, plus the PDF’s summary page. PrintTiler places the tiles for you and adds subtle dashed guides along the internal boundaries.

Which tile size should you choose?

All three presets below use portrait tiles on portrait A4 paper. The tile dimensions are fixed standard sizes; the overall image area depends on the number of rows and columns.

A6 leaves almost no spare paper, while A8 and A10 leave a narrow strip. The layout starts at the top-left of the sheet rather than centering the unused space. Check your printer’s printable area before using seamless mode.

The 8 × 8 A10 example occupies 208 × 296 mm on a 210 × 297 mm A4 sheet. This is a PDF rendering, not a photograph of a physical print.

A6: larger pieces

Four easy-to-handle sections for a simple picture reconstruction activity.

A8: a medium grid

Sixteen pieces for a paper collage or a more involved classroom activity.

A10: a fine grid

Sixty-four small pieces for a detailed rectangular photo puzzle. Keep the assembly preview nearby.

How to do it in PrintTiler

Open one of the A4 presets above. The tile size, grid, orientation, and seamless mode are already selected.
Upload your image and adjust its position and scale to cover the grid. Check that printer paper is A4.
Export the PDF and inspect the summary. The preset has one artwork sheet after that summary.
Select the artwork page in your print dialog. Use A4, one PDF page per sheet, and 100% / Actual Size. Print a proof before cutting.

Printing tips

Seamless mode fills each tile. A non-borderless printer may clip artwork near the sheet edges; cut guides do not change that hardware limit.

Window mode puts a margin inside each tile and fits the image into that smaller area. Cut at the tile boundary, not at the inset image edge.

If exact dimensions matter, measure a proof. Avoid “Fit,” “Shrink oversized pages,” or extra poster tiling in the PDF viewer.

FAQ

Is the 64-tile layout exactly A4-sized?

The paper is A4, 210 × 297 mm. The 8 × 8 grid of 26 × 37 mm A10 tiles occupies 208 × 296 mm, leaving 2 mm on the right and 1 mm at the bottom.

Can I use landscape orientation?

Yes. Change the tile orientation in the editor. PrintTiler chooses the paper orientation that fits the most tiles; landscape A6 tiles in a 2 × 2 grid fit on landscape A4.

What happens if I add more rows or columns?

The image grid continues onto additional sheets while preserving the spatial order. Partly filled sheets get guides only between the tiles actually on that sheet.

Will the guides mark every edge I need to trim?

They mark shared internal tile boundaries. They do not draw an outer frame around the full grid or around a lone tile on a sheet. Trim remaining outer paper separately if needed.
