How to Print an Image as Small Tiles
Turn one image into small paper pieces for cutting, arranging, and assembling. Choose a small tile size and PrintTiler places multiple tiles together on each printer sheet.
For example, an 8 Ă— 8 grid of A10 tiles makes 64 rectangular pieces on one A4 artwork sheet. The exported PDF also includes a summary page with an assembly preview.
Tile size, grid size, and printer paper
Tile size sets the dimensions of each piece. Rows and columns set how many pieces make up the image. Printer paper sets the size of each physical sheet. The complete image area is tile width Ă— columns by tile height Ă— rows.
A10 tiles measure 26 Ă— 37 mm in portrait orientation. An 8 Ă— 8 grid therefore occupies 208 Ă— 296 mm, just inside an A4 sheet measuring 210 Ă— 297 mm. Tiles retain their row-and-column positions when the layout extends onto more sheets.
For a large poster, choose tiles close to your printer paper size and assemble whole sheets. For small cut-out pieces, choose smaller tiles and cut the printed sheets into sections. Both workflows divide one image; they do not repeat a separate photo in every cell.

Photo puzzles
Cut one photo into rectangular pieces and reconstruct the image. These are straight-edged pieces, not interlocking jigsaw shapes.
Classroom activities
Divide a diagram or picture among students, then use the assembly preview to put the pieces in order.
Paper mosaics
Cut image fragments for collage, rearrangement, or a grid-based paper artwork.
How to do it in PrintTiler
- Open the small-tile preset and upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, or SVG image.
- Choose a tile size, rows and columns, and the paper loaded in your printer. Position and scale the image in the preview.
- Choose seamless mode for image content up to the tile edges, or window mode for a border inside each tile. Export the PDF.
- Use the summary to check the layout. Print the artwork pages at 100% / Actual Size, then cut along the internal guides and trim outer edges if needed.
Printing tips
FAQ
Can I print square tiles or enter any custom tile dimensions?
The current editor offers standard rectangular paper-size tiles. It does not offer arbitrary custom tile dimensions or square tile presets.
Does every tile get its own PDF page?
No. Smaller tiles share artwork sheets when they fit. The PDF includes a separate summary page, and larger grids can span several artwork sheets.
Do cut guides change the image size?
No. The PDF overlays thin dashed guides on shared tile boundaries. Tile dimensions, image scaling, and sheet layout stay the same.
Does this work with Letter paper?
PrintTiler supports Letter for poster printing, but small A-series tiles currently use A-series printer paper. A10-on-Letter layouts are not supported.
