Horizontal banner printing guide

How to Print a Banner on Multiple Pages at Home

Make a long birthday, classroom or welcome banner with an ordinary printer. One continuous image is divided across sheets and assembled into a strip; this is different from printing separate letter pennants.

Create your banner PDF

Prepare one wide image

Create the entire horizontal design in Canva, PowerPoint or another tool and add the wording, photos and decorations there. Export a sharp PNG or JPG. Use large, high-contrast text and leave room around faces, dates and logos. PrintTiler divides your finished image; it does not add or edit the message. A small image will not gain detail simply by being enlarged.

Choose the paper and grid

Choose the actual paper in your printer: A4 is 210 × 297 mm and US Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches. One landscape A4 tile is 29.7 × 21 cm. Rows count sheets down and columns count sheets across. The suggested 1 × 5 landscape A4 layout makes a long, shallow strip; 2 × 4 makes a taller display. These are nominal paper footprints before margins, trim or overlap, not guaranteed visible image sizes.

Check the crop and seams

A wide source image is easier to fit into a wide grid. Inspect where letters, dates and faces cross the joins. Seamless mode places image content at tile edges; window mode leaves a border. Most home printers cannot print edge to edge, so image content can still be lost at the unprintable margins. Print two adjacent pages as a proof before committing to the whole banner; trimming cannot restore missing ink.

Join and hang safely

Keep the same paper, orientation and print settings for every page. Arrange sheets in order, align the artwork and trim only where your assembly method requires it. Tape from the back and reinforce the strip or attach it to backing paper before hanging. Paper is best for temporary indoor use; choose a weather-resistant material for an outdoor banner.

Print the banner

  1. 1. Finish one wide design and export a high-quality PNG or JPG.
  2. 2. Open the suggested layout and upload your own image; the preset does not contain artwork.
  3. 3. Match the loaded paper and choose rows, columns and tile orientation. Check the crop and joins.
  4. 4. Export the already-tiled PDF. Print two neighboring pages at Actual Size or 100%, one PDF page per sheet, with the matching paper setting.
  5. 5. Print the remaining pages single-sided at the same scale. Do not use the PDF viewer’s poster or tile mode again.
  6. 6. Lay out the pages, align the image and tape the banner from behind.
