Tarpapel Maker: Print a DIY Tarpapel on A4 or Letter

A tarpapel turns one finished design into a large display assembled from ordinary printed sheets. It is useful for birthdays, school recognition and short indoor celebrations.

Create your tarpapel

What is a tarpapel?

In the Philippines, tarpapel combines the ideas of tarpaulin and papel (paper). It is a homemade paper alternative to a printed tarpaulin, not the same weather-resistant material. Use ordinary sheets for temporary indoor displays; consider a professional outdoor print when durability matters.

Prepare the artwork

Create the whole design first in Canva, PowerPoint or another design tool. Add names, dates and photos there; PrintTiler tiles the finished image. Export a sharp PNG or JPG, use large high-contrast text, and keep faces, logos and small numbers away from likely joins. A tiny screenshot will not gain detail when enlarged.

Choose your paper and size

A4 is 210 × 297 mm; Letter, often called short bond in the Philippines, is 8.5 × 11 inches. US Legal is 8.5 × 14 inches. Philippine long bond is often 8.5 × 13 inches: it is not Legal. Do not assume a dedicated 8.5 × 13 preset; use paper matching a supported setting. The table shows nominal portrait A4 paper footprints before printer margins, trimming or overlap.

Plan seams and a proof

Seamless mode puts the image at tile edges; window mode leaves a border. Most home printers cannot print to the edge, so a 100% print can still lose image content in the unprintable margins. Print two adjacent tiles first, inspect the join and choose an assembly method; trimming cannot restore missing ink. Keep stock and print settings consistent and join the sheets from the back.

Make the tarpapel

  1. 1. Finish one design and export a high-resolution PNG or JPG.
  2. 2. Open the suggested layout and upload your own image; the preset does not include artwork.
  3. 3. Match the paper loaded in the printer, set rows, columns and tile orientation, and inspect the crop and seams.
  4. 4. Export the tiled PDF. Print a proof at Actual Size or 100% with one PDF page per sheet; do not apply poster tiling again.
  5. 5. Print the remaining pages, arrange them in order, align the artwork and tape from behind. Mount on lightweight board if needed.
