Four-page picture guide

How to Print One Picture on Four Pages (2 × 2)

A 2 × 2 layout prints one picture in four pieces: two sheets across and two down. Join the pages to make a compact wall poster, classroom image or party sign.

How big will four pages be?

The paper and orientation determine the nominal footprint; four pages alone do not define one size. The measurements below add the full sheet dimensions before nonprintable margins, trimming or overlap. The visible assembled artwork can be smaller.

Keep important details away from the cross

A 2 × 2 grid has one vertical and one horizontal join. A centered portrait may put the cross through a face; move or crop the image, or change the source composition, while keeping the subject inside the preview. Put small words and important details away from the joins.

Four pages, nine pages or a strip?

A 3 × 3 grid uses nine sheets and makes a larger display, but an enlarged low-resolution source will not gain detail. For a long horizontal strip, try one row and four columns instead. This guide uses two rows and two columns.

Check the printer margins

Seamless mode places image content at the tile edges; window mode leaves borders. Most home printers cannot print to the edge, so even at 100% some image content may be missing. Print neighboring pages first, use the same paper and settings, and choose your assembly method. Trimming cannot restore unprinted content.

Print the four pieces

  1. 1. Choose a sharp PNG or JPG, rather than a small thumbnail.
  2. 2. Open the suggested A4 layout and upload your image; the preset does not include artwork.
  3. 3. Check that there are two rows and two columns. Choose paper and tile orientation to suit the image and the paper loaded in your printer.
  4. 4. Review the crop and seams, then export the tiled PDF. Print a proof at Actual Size or 100%, one PDF page per sheet; do not apply poster tiling again.
  5. 5. Print the remaining pages, arrange the four pieces in row order, align the image and tape from behind.

Frequently asked questions

Does each page contain the whole picture?

No. Each page contains a section; join the four pieces to reconstruct the picture.

Can I use Letter instead of A4?

Yes. Choose Letter in the editor and match it in the printer settings.

Why are there white borders?

Many printers have nonprintable margins. Check two adjacent proof pages; trimming cannot recover image content that was never printed.

Can four pages form a long banner?

Yes. Select one row and four columns instead of a 2 × 2 grid.
